“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:34
Facing a new year offers ample opportunity to worry about what the future will hold. Will my health decline? Will our government collapse? Will broken relationships ever be restored? Will loved ones desert or die? The worries go on and on until the future is the primary focus.

Perhaps it is not the future that overwhelms, but regrets of the past year. New Year’s resolutions offer hope that habits, sins, and bad behaviors will be overcome. But we all know how quickly our resolutions fade. What we need as we approach another new year is Jesus

As a shepherd provides the sheep with everything they need, our Shepherd Jesus is at hand to lead us, protect us, and help us flourish. He has not left us to fend for ourselves. We can talk with Him, bring our desperate prayers to Him, read His direct words to us, worship Him, sing songs and hymns to Him … all of these helping us to dwell in God’s faithfulness.

Look away from your regrets of the past and your worries for the future. Look instead to your Shepherd who is here with you today.
