“Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’”

John 3:3
That Nicodemus would come to Jesus at all was remarkable. He was a wealthy Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, and a member of the Sanhedrin. Under the cover of darkness, he sought out Jesus, perhaps realizing that something was missing in his life. Eventually, he would become a covert disciple of Jesus. Nicodemus was living proof that “God definitely works the night shift!”

Once while on nighttime chaplain duty at a hospital, I took a call asking me to check on a patient right then at that late hour. The light was on in the patient’s room, and he was sitting up in bed. But I sensed the man’s worry. Wonderfully, there in the middle-of-night quiet, he gave his life to Christ.  I learned the man had died two days later while in surgery.

Like Nicodemus, he had encountered Jesus personally in the silence of the night hours. In God’s perfect timing, he was called home. Do you long to be in heaven with the Lord for all eternity? When you’re born again and have a one-on-one relationship with Him, you’re assured of this truth.
