If you like fishing and have ever walked into a fishing and tackle store, you quickly see that the amount of equipment available is mind boggling. For every species of fish, there are loads of lures, line, and gear you can purchase to catch them. In reality, much of the shiny, alluring new tackle displayed on the racks and walls has been designed to “catch” the fisherman! The same is probably true of any store of your special interest that you’d enter. And the temptation to buy it all is great.
Satan uses everything within his power to trick us to sin and abandon our calling as children of light. He displays on the walls of our lives, as it were, charming things that we long to have. He wields his power in our fallen world. He appeals to our sin nature with temptations tailored-made for us. We must be wise regarding his schemes, resisting what brings us to destruction.
God promises to give us a way to resist and not be overtaken by sin. He does this through His Spirit, applying the victorious resurrection power of Jesus in us.
