“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10
I’d had a restless night, and when the morning light broke I was wide awake but still bone tired. Perhaps some of you have known that feeling when the mounting burdens of life have hovered in your mind and kept sleep just out of reach. I was troubled, and I longed for the Shepherd to lead me beside still waters.

We need to be still and know, as the psalmist said, that the Lord is God. We can remind ourselves that “in repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” (Isaiah 30:15). Our heavenly Father can be trusted with the worries of our heart. Crying out to Him brought clarity to me. There was reality that required attention and action, but it was not insurmountable. I began to see practical steps that needed to be taken to bring relief.

Having a godly spouse or a trusted friend to come alongside you is further evidence of God’s care in troubled times. Surrender to His will and hear Him whisper, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
