One of the tenets of Buddhism is the doctrine of death and the afterlife (or reincarnation). I recalled clearly from my upbringing that when a person died, the family would prepare extravagant provisions for him to ensure he’d live a better life than the present one. Elaborate funeral processions made way for the deceased person’s enjoyable life after death. To reach this state of heavenly peace, the reincarnation process would go on for several cycles until “nirvana” or heaven was reached.
I thank God for the glorious gift of life lived with the hope of the resurrection. Though I know I am mortal and weak—living under the shadow of death—daily I am guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Bible reminds me that “man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). “The dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). Praise the Lord I do not have to face cycles of reincarnation to get to heaven. “In the twinkling of an eye,” with open arms, my Savior will welcome me there!
