“For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”

1 Corinthians 15:22
The empty tomb in the garden just outside the city walls of Jerusalem is the Garden of Eden come full circle. The Bible tells us that Satan cast his dark shadows near that forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden, exploiting the innocence of a woman, thus ushering in the curse of sin. Like a virus, sin took malignant root in the human experience. But in the garden of the empty tomb, sin was conquered once and for all.

One woman was there when sin first slithered into humanity; several women were first there when the price for sin had been paid in full. The first garden was abandoned in shame and guilt; the second garden was the welcome site of unparalleled joy, the guarantee that every son and daughter in Christ also will rise again one day.

This Easter we thank God for the women-witnesses of the Easter miracle. They believed wholeheartedly that Jesus was not in that tomb but ascended to the Father in victory over sin and death. They rejoiced and went immediately to tell others. Like them, we do not seek the living among the dead, for He has risen!
