“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Colossians 3:17
I grew up in a small Pennsylvania town where my family name connected me to others, for better or for worse. My older sisters preceded me in school and caused expectations of how I’d perform academically. But my father came from a large family, and while he was an honorable man, other family members were marked by their alcoholic and immoral behavior. My parents took care to instill integrity and morals in us for our family name’s sake.

We followers of Jesus Christ carry a deeper namesake with us. Paul wrote to the Colossian believers—calling them chosen people, holy and dearly loved—instructing them on how they were to conduct themselves as God’s children. His words are for us, too. Putting on the clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience helps us reflect the image of our heavenly Father.

The world is filled with evil. Everywhere there are displays of the likeness of the devil. But Jesus came to break the power of Satan and to set free all those who are called by His name. For His name’s sake, lift Him high!
