Ezekiel 34:14
Ezekiel was a priest to the nation of Israel. He was carried into exile but continued his priestly role of proclaiming the message of hope and warning against the sins that had led to captivity. Ezekiel brought word that though Israel had been conquered by their oppressors, they were not abandoned. The Shepherd was caring for His flock.
I grew up in a farming community, and I have fond memories of living near green pastures of rich, fertile soil which produced ample food for the herds. Though expansive, the pastures were fenced to protect the feeding animals. There were natural supplies of water, and there trees where the animals found shade and rest.
The green pastures the Lord provides for us are those things that are life-giving. They’re reminders of His tender care: answered prayer, a good health report, unexpected kindness, a call or visit from a caring friend, a word of Scripture that heartens. The list goes on. Any amount of green pastures that we know in this life points us to our ultimate green pasture in eternity with Jesus one day.
