“Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.’”

Genesis 41:39
God picked Joseph, an unlikely person, to lead His people. He was a son of Jacob, despised and betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, slandered by Pharaoh’s wife, and imprisoned for years. But through it all, God was preparing Joseph to become Pharaoh’s right-hand man.

Pharaoh had a dream which none of his magicians could interpret. His chief cupbearer brought Joseph to him, remembering Joseph had interpreted his own dream years earlier. Joseph spoke boldly saying, “God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires” (41:16). At 30 years old, he became Pharaoh’s assistant, and the sovereign plan of God was in motion.

God worked through Joseph, giving him wisdom and a position of influence, so that His chosen people would be preserved; so that Jacob’s entire family would be saved from famine under Joseph’s leadership; so that through the line of one of Joseph’s brothers, the Messiah would one day be born.

“My times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:15) would have been a fitting verse for Joseph. It’s applicable in our lives, too!
