“And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this.”

Esther 4:14b
Esther wasn’t given a choice about her pathway in life. Her position was forced on her by the pagan king, Xerxes, in whose kingdom she was confined to live as an exile. How she must have missed her old life under the care of her cousin Mordecai, the one who raised her after her parents’ deaths.

However, our Sovereign Lord rules above all kings and rulers of this world. His plans always surpass others’. Esther needed only to take the risk and accept His plan. She did just that by declaring, “I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (4:16). Then she moved forward with resolve on a path which saved her people from annihilation.

Circumstances may seem beyond our control, leading us where we’d prefer not to go. We’ll often look to blame those we feel are responsible for our discomfort and unhappiness. But if we quiet ourselves before the Lord and try to see His purposes, we can leave our victim mentality behind. We can accept that safe place under His providential care, even in our trials.
