“But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”

Years after my release from prison, I received a voicemail from a man claiming to be my biological father. The only thing I knew about my father was that he’d been in prison. When I asked my wife Mae what she thought I should do, she smiled and said, “Call him!”
A few weeks later, Mae and I drove up with our children to a dilapidated trailer about two hours from our home. The man who stepped out looked like an older version of me! We wept as we embraced one another. “I thought I’d never find you,” he said. My father told me how the Lord delivered him from a life of drug abuse and crime. I introduced him to his grandchildren. By God’s grace, we’d both been reconciled in Christ in order that God might glorify Himself by reconciling us to one another!
You and I are by nature enemies of God, dead in our sins (see Colossians 1:21). To be reconciled is to have peace with God through Jesus’ blood. Christ Himself is our peace because by His death and resurrection He adopts us so we’re no longer at war with our Father (see Ephesians 2:14-18).
