Have you ever doubted God’s willingness to forgive you for your sins? Many men I’ve met in prison tell me they feel that way. Whether we’re in the “free world” or not, we often have a hard time accepting God’s complete payment for sin through the death of His Son.
Peter was a man who knew the riches of God’s grace firsthand. Even after denying the Lord three times, he was restored to a place of fruitful service in the church (John 21:15-19). Shortly after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Peter preached a fiery sermon in the Jerusalem temple. With all the zeal of an Old Testament prophet, he charged the men of Israel with the worst crime in human history: killing the Prince of life, the Lord Jesus Christ (v. 15).
But Peter’s message doesn’t end in condemnation. It culminates in the reviving, comforting truth that the record of our sins is wiped clean. Any of us will receive eternal refreshing from the Lord when we repent and believe the gospel. What about you? Will you turn from your sins today through faith in Jesus Christ?
