“You brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.”

Psalm 71:6
Perhaps you’ve heard the slogan, “Every child a wanted child.” The irony of that phrase is how it’s used to rationalize the murder of thousands of unborn babies every year.

I was born in 1974, one year after the Roe vs. Wade decision that imposed legalized abortion in the United States. My father was in prison. My mother was a drug addict who abandoned me in a motel room when I was three years old. From a human perspective, I wasn’t a “wanted” child. But I was wanted by God.

The Bible teaches that children are a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5). God promised Abraham a son in his old age (Genesis 18). David knew God had loved him even from his mother’s womb (Psalm 22:10). Jeremiah was known by God and ordained a prophet long before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5).

My own children are answers to my prayers in prison years ago. They’re living proof that God is the One who took me out of my mother’s womb and shaped my life for Him. No child of God should ever feel unwanted or unloved. In Christ we were chosen before the foundation of the world.
