“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.”

Galatians 6:9-10
As a disciple of Jesus, I am called to bring goodness to the world, specifically to those in my sphere of influence. This is an enjoyable way to live, often giving immediate blessing to me and to the receiver. My soul has been nurtured by even a simple task like bringing home-baked cookies to a young man from Serbia who serves at our community pool and seeing the smile on his face.

But at times we may find we are on overload. The cares of our own lives wash over us like ocean waves. It’s hard enough to take care of ourselves, let alone go out of our way for others. Exhausted, we may wonder, “Who is caring for me?”

When you reach this point, look to the One who is indeed caring for you. Rather than turning inward, go to His Word, perhaps to the Psalms or other verses that have heartened you before. The kindness of your Heavenly Father springs forth to restore your soul in those dark times. Remind yourself that He takes great delight in you (see Zephaniah 3:17). Soon you’ll be ready again to “do good to all people.”
