“When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.”

Genesis 39:3-4
A better translation for verse 6 of Psalm 23 might be, “Surely goodness and love will pursue me.” It more accurately depicts the Lord’s never giving-up passion for His children.

Joseph is a beautiful example of someone who was pursued by the goodness, mercy, and love of the Lord. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Driven by jealousy because Joseph was favored at home, they did this and lied about it, devastating their father.

Meanwhile, despite being thrown into a pagan society with an unknown language and culture, Joseph thrived. The favor of the Lord was chasing him down. It wasn’t an easy road. At one point Joseph was falsely accused and sent to prison. But even there he was put in charge of others and had a place of respect. Throughout the detailed account, we often read, “The Lord was with him.”

Life circumstances turn, and we find ourselves in situations and conditions where we did not intend to go. But the promises of the Lord do not fail. He will follow and pursue us to cover us in His goodness, love, and mercy.
